Herons, Egrets and Ibis 

Glossy Ibis - Near Vado del Jeso

These photos were taken from the car.  We just happened to be driving past these extensive paddy fields which were obviously ideal for the Glossy Ibis, of which we estimated that there were 750

White Ibis -   Also in the paddy fields near Vado del Jeso

Great Egret  - Vado del Jeso.  This is part of a group of about 50.

Tri-coloured Heron

This individual was seen on a small reservoir to the east of Puerto Padre.

Tri-coloured Heron    -  Seen on our epic drive through the Sierra Maestra mountains.

Snowy Egret
Also seen on the small reservoir to the east of Puerto Padre.

Green Heron

Seen on our epic drive through the Sierra Maestra mountains.  

The small river here produced many birds.

Reddish Egret

Sierra Maestra mountains.   Perched on a tree close to the Green Heron

Yellow-crowned Night-heron
Pictured high in the trees in the steep valley rising above the hotel at El Salton.
There were at least five birds and one nest.

Little Blue Heron
Seen on farmland along the road leading to the Villa Pinares de Mayari
